Inspired by the reactions I’ve seen from the leaked Reunion episode, and something I’d like seeing happen. It’d be a fresh direction to go with the show, if nothing else.

Chuck carefully didn’t fidget. It was rare enough Mike implicitly allowed anyone else to sit on top of Mutt, and he didn’t want to sully that by an inadvertent scuffing.
“It’s just- you were the one who told me I should-“
“I know! I know, man. But after a while- sometimes it just doesn’t work out, you know?”
“…Is this because you’re into h-“
“Chuckles!” Mike said, genuinely a little affronted. “You know me better than that.”
“No, you’re right. Sorry.” Chuck’s thumbnail moved against the scratch of his jeans. “I just- Is it because I’m-“
Mike put an arm around his shoulder. “No! No, buddy; you can’t think of it like that. It’s not your fault. Not hers, either. Fault’s got nothing to do with it. It just doesn’t happen. It’s like…” He paused, making a vague hand motion, as if in hopes of capturing the vast and vague that is awkward teen romance. “You can’t get moving if the car’s not in drive, you know? Like, the keys are in and it’s on and the radio’s going and everything else’s working perfect, but if it’s still in park, all pressing on the gas’s gonna do is make a lotta noise. Can’t force it.”
Chuck looked up at him through his curtain of hair, loosening his grip on his knees, lips quirking a little. “You like the noise.”
Mike returned the grin. “Heh. Yeah, I do.” Mike studied his friend for a moment, cocking his head. “You gonna be all right, bud?”
Chuck nodded. “Yeah. No, you’re right.” He smiled, a little fuller this time. “Thanks, Mikey.”
ahhhhh :’) A very nice resolution! That explanation was TOTALLY Mike. Also I kind of want to use that explanation myself, because it makes good sense.
